UAE and Japan Forge Stronger Strategic Partnership Through New Agreements and Collaborations

UAE, 8 July, 2024 :   Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss the latest developments in their countries' Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The meeting, attended by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and UAE Ambassador Shihab Al Fahim, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

During the discussions, Dr. Al Jaber conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discussed ongoing joint projects and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable economic growth. Emphasizing the UAE's commitment to fostering economic and social development, Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the importance of securing energy supplies and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency of the energy sector.

Key meetings included discussions with Japanese Ministers Kamikawa Yoko, Ken Saito, and Taro Kono, covering economic cooperation, advanced technology, and digital transformation. Several strategic partnerships were announced, including a $3 billion green financing agreement between ADNOC and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and a Memorandum of Cooperation on strategic reserves with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

The UAE delegation also highlighted significant energy partnerships, including ADNOC's first certified shipment of low-carbon ammonia to Japan and renewable energy projects by Mubadala Investment Company through the PAG REN I platform.

In 2023, bilateral trade between the UAE and Japan totaled $47.4 billion, with non-oil trade reaching $15.6 billion, reflecting a 6.1% growth from the previous year. The UAE remains Japan's primary trading partner within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), underscoring the robust economic ties between the two nations.

This visit underscores the UAE and Japan's mutual commitment to expanding their strategic partnership across multiple sectors, driving economic growth and innovation.
