NBR Identifies 41 VAT Violations in July Market Inspections

Bahrain, 15 August, 2024 : The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) conducted 183 inspection visits across Bahrain’s local markets in July, uncovering 41 VAT violations. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with VAT, Excise regulations, and the Digital Stamps Scheme while promoting consumer rights and combatting tax evasion.

The reported violations included failure to issue VAT-compliant invoices, display prices inclusive of VAT, and visibly show VAT certificates. Administrative fines were imposed as per the law. Additionally, several cases of suspected VAT and Excise evasion were identified, with legal action pending against violators. Penalties for proven evasion include up to five years of imprisonment and heavy fines.

The NBR emphasized the importance of business and consumer cooperation in maintaining compliance and encouraged reporting of violations through its 24/7 call center or other official channels.
