UAE, 3 September, 2024 H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the fifth session of the UAE-Kuwait Joint Higher Committee in Abu Dhabi. The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Yahya.
The session was attended by several UAE ministers, including Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei (Energy and Infrastructure), Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber (Industry and Advanced Technology), Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi (Sports), and others.
In his opening remarks, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the deep ties between the two nations, rooted in shared heritage and common values. He highlighted the significant growth in bilateral trade, which surpassed $12 billion in 2023, and expressed a commitment to expanding cooperation in various sectors, including industry, trade, and renewable energy.
Sheikh Abdullah also reaffirmed the UAE's support for Kuwait in international organizations and multilateral platforms, emphasizing the importance of continued mutual support. He reiterated the UAE's stance on the ownership of natural resources in the Al-Durra Field, asserting that it is exclusively owned by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Following the bilateral meeting, eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Executive Programmes were signed between the two countries. These agreements cover cooperation in infrastructure, standardization, telecommunications, education, sports, culture, cybersecurity, and defense procurement.
The session concluded with Sheikh Abdullah expressing gratitude to the participants and hosting a dinner in honor of the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister and his delegation.
