Sheraa Advances Sharjah’s Role as Regional Hub for Entrepreneurship

UAE, 12 September, 2024 : The Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa) is advancing its role in fostering entrepreneurship across the region, following a meeting of its newly appointed Board of Advisors. Chaired by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the board aims to drive innovation and cement Sharjah as a leading regional hub for startups.

The 17-member board, featuring leaders from government, industry, and academia, includes Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; and Asma bin Taliah, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Executive Council. Najla Al Midfa, Vice Chairperson of Sheraa, and Sara Al Nuaimi, CEO of Sheraa, were also in attendance.

Sheikha Bodour expressed optimism for Sheraa’s future, highlighting the board’s expertise in fostering innovation and sustainability within Sharjah’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Minister Al Marri praised Sheraa’s efforts in contributing to the UAE’s goal of becoming a global hub for entrepreneurship by 2031. 

Dr. Al Dahak emphasized the importance of innovation in climate resilience and sustainability, expressing her enthusiasm for Sheraa’s potential to support startups addressing environmental challenges.

Since its inception, Sheraa has supported over 420 startups, incubating 180 ventures that have raised $171 million in funding and generated over $248 million in revenue, creating 1,900 jobs. Sheraa’s flagship event, the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival, has attracted over 30,000 participants, reinforcing Sharjah’s reputation as a premier hub for entrepreneurial talent.
