Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit Releases Comprehensive Third Annual Report on Progress and Achievements

Oman, 25 September, 2024 : The Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit has issued its third annual report, evaluating the performance of government institutions in various economic and developmental sectors during 2023. This report aims to assess progress towards achieving the goals set forth in Oman Vision 2040.

Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of the Unit, noted that this report continues the tradition of annual assessments initiated in 2022 and highlights the collaborative efforts between the Unit and other government agencies. He emphasized the importance of strong governance for family businesses and praised the new Family Business Governance Guide aimed at enhancing performance.

The report also outlines the government’s improved economic performance, which includes reducing debt and enhancing GDP growth, alongside a better credit rating. Dr. Al Jabri attributed these achievements to political will and the effective management of economic development.

Significant progress has been made in several priority areas of Oman Vision 2040, including education, health, and social welfare. For example, 65 higher education institutions underwent quality audits, and 314 research projects were funded. Sultan Qaboos University improved its QS ranking significantly, reflecting advancements in the educational sector.

The report also highlights improvements in health services, social welfare initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable groups, and advancements in the Youth Development Index, where Oman ranked 33rd globally. Additionally, 116 innovation and technology-based startups were established under the Promising Omani Startups Programme.

In environmental performance, Oman rose significantly in the Environmental Performance Index, achieving 54th place globally. The report emphasizes the need for effective governance, digital transformation, and a flexible administrative apparatus to ensure sustainable growth and development across all sectors.

Dr. Al Jabri commended the efforts of national sectors and underscored the importance of collaboration in navigating global economic challenges while striving for the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
