Mexico and Kuwait Strengthen Ties with Growing Trade and Cultural Cooperation

Kuwait, 09 October, 2024 : The Embassy of Mexico in Kuwait celebrated its National Day, marking the 214th anniversary of Mexico's independence. The event, attended by Ambassador His Excellency Eduardo Peña Haller and Assistant Foreign Minister Sheikh Nawaf Abdullateef Al Ahmed.

In his address, Ambassador Haller reflected on Mexico's independence and emphasized the strong ties between Kuwait and Mexico, highlighting shared values such as respect for international law and commitment to peaceful coexistence. He noted that recent years have seen a strengthening of relations, marked by high-level visits and the signing of 25 treaties and agreements. Trade between the two countries is growing at an impressive annual rate of 28.5 percent.

Ambassador Haller also announced that Mexico is now led by its first female president, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, highlighting the constitutional reform of 2019 that guarantees gender parity in government. He paid tribute to the Mexican community in Kuwait, honoring Engineer Diana Sánchez Squivel for her environmental contributions and Mrs. Esperanza Zuzuarregui for her long-standing efforts in community organization.

Discussing future cooperation, Ambassador Haller noted ongoing projects in medicine, commerce, and culture. Plans include establishing medical projects and training programs to address common health issues like diabetes and heart disease. He also announced cultural exchanges featuring music and performances, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Mexico.

Emphasizing the importance of dialogue and negotiation, Ambassador Haller affirmed that both countries are dedicated to resolving conflicts peacefully and respecting international law.
