Qatar Emerges as Germany's Third Largest Trading Partner in the Gulf

Qatar, 24 October, 2024 : German Ambassador to Qatar, H E Lothar Freischlader, emphasized that Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit to Germany strengthens the already robust bilateral ties. This visit continues a series of high-level exchanges, including the Amir’s visit to Berlin in October 2023 and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s visit to Doha in November 2023.

Qatar is now Germany's third-largest trading partner in the Gulf, with a bilateral trade volume reaching €1.8 billion in 2023. Qatar holds significant investments in major German companies, including Volkswagen, Siemens, and Deutsche Bank, with total investments between €25 billion and €30 billion. 

The Ambassador expressed hope for future Qatari investments in climate sectors like green hydrogen, noting Qatar's key role as a global energy supplier. He also highlighted Qatar’s commitment to education and innovation.
