Oman to Boost Saudi Trade with New Economic Zone Near Border

Oman, 6 November, 2024 : Oman is set to begin development on its new Economic Zone at Dhahirah (EZAD), located near the Saudi border, with a tender issued by the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ). The tender focuses on building critical infrastructure, including main roads, protection channels, and a drainage system.

Funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, EZAD aims to boost trade and economic growth, leveraging its strategic location to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia and diversify Oman’s economy. The development plan includes a 14.8km main road, a 2km two-way road, roundabouts, parking, sidewalks, and a 6.3km flood-protection channel.

Spanning 388 square kilometers, EZAD is positioned 20km from the Rub al Khali border crossing. The deadline for purchasing tender documents is November 18, 2024, with submission due by January 2, 2025.
