Qatar, 8 November, 2024 : Trade between Qatar and Indonesia has grown by 12% over the past five years, reflecting strong diplomatic and economic ties, according to Indonesia's Ambassador to Qatar, HE Ridwan Hassan. Speaking at an event marking Indonesia's 79th Independence Day, the ambassador celebrated the 48-year relationship between the two nations.
Ambassador Hassan noted that Qatar’s investments in Indonesia, including those by Qatar National Bank and Ooredoo, have played a key role in strengthening bilateral ties. He also emphasized the growing importance of tourism, with direct flights between the two countries increasing travel and business opportunities. Qatar Airways and Garuda Indonesia's daily flights between Jakarta and Doha have further boosted connectivity.
Cultural ties have deepened over the years, with more than 24,000 Indonesians now living and working in Qatar. Ambassador Hassan highlighted the success of the Qatar-Indonesia Year of Culture, which fostered deeper connections through art, cuisine, and literature.
Looking to the future, the ambassador pointed to food security as a promising area for collaboration, noting Qatar’s Baladna’s contributions to this sector. As the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations approaches in 2026, the ambassador expressed confidence that Qatar and Indonesia will continue to strengthen their partnership in various fields.
