UAE and Brazil Strengthen Strategic Partnership, Discuss Global Issues

UAE, 11 November, 2024 : Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, visited Brazil from 5th-6th November 2024 to strengthen cooperation ahead of the UAE's participation in the upcoming G20 summit hosted by Brazil.

During her visit, Nusseibeh led political consultations with Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte, Brazil’s Secretary of Africa and the Middle East, focusing on shared goals in trade, investment, climate change, and multilateral cooperation. Accompanied by UAE Ambassador Saleh Al Suwaidi, she also met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to discuss international and regional developments.

The UAE and Brazil welcomed progress in negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and MERCOSUR, with both sides expressing optimism for stronger trade links.

In addition, Nusseibeh and Brazilian leaders discussed ongoing cooperation in international fora, particularly following both countries' recent terms on the United Nations Security Council. She praised Brazil's leadership in global governance, including its G20 presidency’s focus on tackling inequality and energy transition.

Nusseibeh also met with Brazilian National Congress President Rodrigo Pacheco and students at the Rio Branco Institute, concluding her visit with a commitment to deepening UAE-Brazil relations for the next 50 years and beyond.
