UAE, 19 November, 2024 : At COP29 in Baku, the U.S. and UAE announced that funding for the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) has reached $29.2 billion. Launched in 2021, the initiative aims to reduce the climate impact of agriculture and enhance farming resilience to global warming.
Food systems contribute about a third of human-made greenhouse gas emissions, including those from farming, land use, and food production. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack emphasized the critical role of agricultural research in addressing the unprecedented challenges facing global food systems.
The AIM for Climate program, set to conclude in 2025, has already launched nearly 130 projects with over 800 partners, focusing on supporting small farmers, reducing methane emissions, and advancing farming technologies. The initiative secured $17 billion in funding at COP28 and $8 billion at COP27.
