Kuwait, 19 November, 2024 : Kuwait is accelerating sustainable urban development as part of Vision 2035, focusing on economic growth, social integration, and environmental sustainability. With roots in its 1950s urban planning initiatives, Kuwait has made significant strides in establishing eco-friendly "smart cities" and modern infrastructure.
The government has tasked entities like the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) with fast-tracking housing projects to meet citizens' needs. A report by the Supreme Council for Planning and Development revealed ongoing work on 36 infrastructure projects, with several already completed or nearing handover.
The 2040 Fourth Kuwait Master Plan outlines plans to divide the country into four zones catering to urban, economic, and environmental growth, while smart city initiatives are gaining traction. Kuwait is hosting a conference on sustainable cities from November 19-21 under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Current projects include six key developments in Al-Mutla, South Abdullah Al-Mubarak, and other cities. Partnerships with South Korea and China have further bolstered smart and sustainable housing efforts, including a recent MoU with China to advance strategic housing projects.
Through these initiatives, Kuwait aims to attract foreign investments and establish itself as a leader in sustainable urban development.
