Bahrain, 20 November, 2024 : The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) carried out 168 inspections across Bahrain’s local markets in October 2024 to enforce compliance with VAT, Excise regulations, and the Digital Stamps Scheme. The initiative aims to protect consumer rights, combat tax evasion, and raise awareness about proper tax implementation.
The inspections uncovered 40 VAT violations, including failures to issue compliant invoices, display VAT-inclusive prices, and visibly present VAT certificates. Administrative fines were imposed in line with the law. Additionally, suspected cases of excise evasion were identified, with legal actions underway, including potential imprisonment and fines for proven violations.
The NBR stressed the importance of business and consumer cooperation in achieving high compliance standards and urged the public to report violations through the NBR call center or the Tawasul system. Further details are available on the NBR website.
