Qatar, 26 November, 2024 : The UK’s ambassador to Qatar, Neerav Patel, announced that several significant agreements will be signed during the upcoming state visit of Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to the UK on December 3-4. The visit, marking only the third state visit of Qatar to the UK, will be the first under King Charles III.
Patel highlighted the strategic importance of the visit, emphasizing the unique relationship between the two countries. Key areas of cooperation will include defense, security, economy, energy, and people-to-people relations. The ambassador noted the significance of Qatar's partnership with the UK in defense, particularly its joint air force squadron, which is the only one in the world. They also aim to strengthen cooperation in emerging areas like digitization, AI, and counter-terrorism.
In energy, Qatar’s role as a key supplier of LNG to the UK will be central, with efforts to expand into clean energy partnerships. Patel also stressed the importance of the two countries working together on international issues such as regional stability and Qatar’s mediation efforts in conflict zones like Gaza and Ukraine.
The visit is expected to reinforce the long-standing ties between Qatar and the UK, which have spanned over 160 years.
