Kuwait Prioritizes Strengthening Strategic Partnership with China

Kuwait, 29 November, 2024 : Kuwait is committed to enhancing its strategic partnership with China, focusing on economic, trade, investment, infrastructure, transport, and energy collaboration, according to Kuwaiti diplomats Fatima Al-Mesbahi and Sarah Al-Hasawi.

Speaking at the Third China-Arab States Young Political Leaders Forum in Zhuhai, Al-Mesbahi highlighted Kuwait-China cooperation as pivotal for regional stability and prosperity. She noted the relationship, established 53 years ago, has grown steadily, making China Kuwait's largest trading partner since 2015, with bilateral trade rising from $12.3 billion in 2013 to $22.39 billion in 2022.

Al-Mesbahi also referenced His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s 2023 visit to China, which bolstered ties and advanced initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Kuwait Vision 2035.

Al-Hasawi emphasized Kuwait’s early involvement in the BRI since 2014 and highlighted key joint projects, including Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port and Al-Shagaya Renewable Energy, which enhance Kuwait's role as a global commercial hub. She praised the forum’s role in fostering cooperation and expressed Kuwait’s aspiration to host the Third Arab-China Leaders’ Summit in 2030.

The event, held in person for the first time, gathered over 100 young politicians from 21 Arab countries and China to strengthen ties based on outcomes from the first China-Arab Summit. Kuwait is among six Arab nations with consulates in China’s Guangdong province.
