Oman and Angola Explore Strengthened Strategic Partnerships

Oman, 18 December, 2024 : Oman and Angola are working to strengthen their bilateral cooperation across various sectors, aiming to establish solid and promising strategic partnerships. This follows an official visit by President João Lourenço of Angola to Oman, marking a new phase in political relations and fostering trade ties between the two countries.

Recent visits, such as that by Omani Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, to Angola in May 2024, and a delegation from the State Council in October 2023, have focused on exploring cooperative opportunities. Although trade and investment between the two nations remain modest, there has been significant growth, with trade exchange increasing by 145.1% to RO 3.2 million in 2023.

Both nations are now eyeing further cooperation in sectors like energy, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure. Oman’s expertise in oil, gas, renewable energy, and mining is seen as a valuable asset for Angola, one of Africa’s largest oil producers. Additionally, both countries are exploring potential partnerships in food security, infrastructure, maritime connectivity, and tourism.

Ambassador Ali Said Al Kathiri of Oman highlighted that while relations are still in early stages, the visit is expected to drive the development of mutual interests and regional stability. Angola’s Ambassador to Oman, Dr. Frederico Cardoso, emphasized the importance of the visit in reinforcing bilateral ties and the shared commitment to long-term collaboration in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and technology.
