Mongolia Aims to Strengthen Ties with Bahrain Following Landmark Visit

Bahrain, 19 December, 2024 : Mongolia’s Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrain has expressed a strong desire to strengthen relations with Bahrain after his historic visit earlier this month. He praised Bahrain’s economic transformation and its ability to thrive despite challenges, describing the kingdom as a ‘hidden gem.’

Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene highlighted the similarities between the two nations, despite their geographical differences, and commended Bahrain’s successful economic diversification. He noted Bahrain’s reduced reliance on oil, which now contributes just 15% of its GDP, and its role as a model for Mongolia’s own diversification efforts.

The Mongolian leader identified three key areas for cooperation:

  1. Finance: Mongolia plans to leverage Bahrain’s expertise in fintech and financial systems.
  1. Mining: Bahrain’s resource management skills could aid Mongolia in optimizing its mineral reserves.
  1. National Security: Both countries are considering exchange programs to align resources with global demand.

Mongolia currently has diplomatic missions in the UAE, Kuwait, and Egypt but aims to expand its presence in the GCC, with Bahrain seen as a gateway to the Gulf region.

During his visit, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene met Bahrain’s Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and other top officials. He was impressed by Bahrain’s growth and extended an invitation to global investors, particularly in mining and energy sectors.

His visit, part of a broader initiative to strengthen ties with the Gulf, marks the beginning of a promising partnership, with both countries eager to collaborate for mutual growth.
