Oman, 20 December, 2024 : The 12th session of the Omani-Turkish Joint Committee took place in Muscat, focusing on investment and economic cooperation between the two countries. The session was chaired by Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion Qais Mohammed Al Yousef and Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek.
Al Yousef highlighted the strong historical ties between Oman and Turkey, reinforced by the recent visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Turkey. He emphasized the importance of boosting commercial exchange and joint economic projects through the Omani-Turkey investment fund.
Simsek stressed the need to accelerate negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the GCC and Turkey, noting Oman’s advantages in attracting Turkish investments in sectors such as defense, AI, and mining.
Discussions also covered cooperation in renewable energy, logistics, tourism, agriculture, and industrial conversion. Both sides recognized the need for trade and investment forums to promote private sector products and investment opportunities.
Oman’s exports to Turkey reached RO 51.7 million by July 2024, with imports totaling RO 131.2 million. The number of Turkish-invested companies in Oman stood at 849 by August 2024. In 2023, Oman and Turkey signed 12 agreements in sectors like tourism, agriculture, and air transport.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and Mehmet Hakimoğlu, Turkey’s Ambassador to Oman.
