Oman Launches Survey to Assess Digital Economy’s Contribution to GDP

Oman, 2 January, 2024 : Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MoCIIP), in collaboration with the National Centre for Statistics and Information, launched the ‘Digital Economy’s Contribution to GDP Survey’ on Tuesday. The survey, set to continue until May 2025, aims to assess the digital economy's contribution to the nation’s GDP and evaluate the added value of the ICT sector, including digitally provided financial and insurance services.

Targeting around 1,300 establishments across various ICT sectors, the survey will gather data from businesses of all sizes, using 2023 as a reference. The data collected will guide policymakers and decision-makers as Oman aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to 10% of GDP by 2040.

The survey will focus on key indicators such as ICT activity value, employee numbers, salaries, operational expenses, investments, and revenues. Dr. Ali al Shidhani, Undersecretary of MoCIIP, emphasized the importance of the survey in providing reliable data for economic analysis and policy formulation.

Data collection will be done through telephone interviews, online self-completion links, and field visits, with confidentiality assured under the Statistics Law.
