Qatar, 28 January, 2025 : Qatar and Oman continue to enjoy deep-rooted, strategic relations, underscored by shared language, history, and common interests. These ties have been nurtured by the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, and are seeing continuous growth across various sectors.
The upcoming state visit of His Highness the Amir to Oman aims to enhance bilateral relations, focusing on economic cooperation, investment, tourism, and regional security. Discussions will cover mutual aspirations and ways to strengthen collaboration for economic prosperity. Agreements expected during the visit will open new opportunities for growth and integration.
Qatar and Oman’s relations date back to pre-independence days, with their first ambassadors exchanging credentials in the 1970s. The countries’ ties have evolved steadily, especially after key visits from their leaders in recent years. This enduring relationship reflects the strong political will of both nations to expand cooperation in areas such as energy, industry, and logistics.
Economic cooperation between the two countries has made significant strides, particularly in sectors like agriculture, energy, transportation, and tourism. The trade volume reached $1.2bn in the first half of 2024. Both nations are home to many joint ventures, including Qatari investments in Oman, valued at QR2bn. Key projects such as Karwa Motors and the Qatari Diar project are examples of growing collaboration.
In addition, a joint investment fund, Al Hosn Investment Company, was established in 2007 to foster partnerships in industries like banking, healthcare, tourism, and oil. The Omani-Qatari Joint Committee and the Omani-Qatari Businessmen Council play pivotal roles in enhancing trade, investment, and mutual opportunities, underscoring the long-term commitment to the prosperity of both nations.
