Bahrain’s NBR Reports 320 Tax Violations in 2024 Market Inspections

Bahrain, 31 January, 2025 : The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) conducted 1,875 inspection visits across Bahrain’s local markets in 2024, identifying 320 violations as part of efforts to enhance business compliance with VAT, Excise regulations, and the Digital Stamps Scheme.

The inspections covered various sectors, including education, construction, real estate, retail, and healthcare. A total of 316 VAT violations were recorded, with fines imposed for issues such as improper VAT invoices, failure to display VAT-inclusive prices, and the absence of VAT certificates. Additionally, four cases involved the supply of excise goods without valid digital stamps.

The NBR also flagged potential VAT and Excise evasion cases, with legal actions underway. Offenders could face imprisonment and fines up to three times the evaded tax amount.

The NBR urged businesses to comply with tax regulations and encouraged the public to report violations via the NBR call center or the Tawasul system. More details are available on the NBR website.
