Bahrain, 15 May, 2025 : The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) conducted 137 inspection visits across Bahrain’s local markets in April 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with VAT and Excise regulations.
The inspections uncovered 12 violations, including failure to display VAT certificates, not showing VAT-inclusive prices, and improper VAT invoicing. Administrative fines were issued accordingly.
The NBR also identified suspected cases of VAT evasion, with legal action underway. Confirmed offenders could face up to five years in prison and fines up to three times the evaded VAT amount.
The NBR stressed the importance of cooperation from both businesses and consumers to uphold compliance and encouraged reporting violations via the 24/7 call center (80008001) or through the Tawasul system. More information is available at www.nbr.gov.bh.
