UAE Expands Customs Tariff Code to 12 Digits: Dubai Customs Begins Implementation

UAE, 29 July, 2025 : Dubai Customs has initiated the phased implementation of a 12-digit customs tariff code system, following UAE Cabinet Decision No. 119/2024, which was announced on 1 January 2025. This move aligns with the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) Integrated Customs Tariff framework.

As per Customs Notice No. 10/2025 issued on 23 July 2025, the existing 8-digit tariff codes will remain valid during a six-month transition period to allow businesses time to adapt.

Key Highlights:

  • The first phase focuses on customs declarations for goods with GCC countries as the final destination.

  • Businesses are urged to review and update their master data and align internal systems before the transition deadline.

  • Misclassification of goods may lead to fines and penalties under GCC Common Customs Law.

Importers and exporters are encouraged to take proactive steps to ensure compliance and avoid disruption in their supply chains.
