Abu Dhabi, 23 March, 2024 : Abu Dhabi has prolonged its tax waiver program for event organizers, aiming to invigorate its tourism sector. Until December 31, 2024, organizers are exempt from the 10% tourism fee on tickets sold, according to the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).
Saleh Mohammed Al Geziry, Director General of Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, stated, “The extension of the tourism fee waiver until the end of the year is part of our efforts to accelerate our growth and provide continued support to our event partners and organizers, who are integral to the tourism and entertainment ecosystem of the emirate.”
The waiver is among several initiatives introduced by the UAE capital to bolster its tourism and events industry, including reductions in tourism and municipality fees for hotels and updates to the holiday homes policy.
In 2022, Abu Dhabi hosted over 1,200 MICE events, catering to a total of 603,000 visitors, with a hotel capacity of 70%. Despite setting a target of 24 million visitors for 2023, the emirate saw 18 million visitors during the same period.
