KSA, 29 April, 2024 : Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman met with EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh to explore collaboration in clean energy.
Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, promoting green energy, and advancing goals outlined in the Paris Agreement, with a particular emphasis on outcomes from COP28 held in Dubai.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to accelerating private investment in renewables, enhancing electricity interconnection, and integrating renewables into the grid.
Attention was also given to bolstering electricity supply infrastructure through smart grid management and exploring carbon capture, utilization, and storage technology.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Saudi Arabia and the EU to enhance energy sector cooperation was discussed, aiming to provide a solid foundation for investment decisions and mobilizing stakeholders for a sustainable energy future.
The European Commission and Saudi Arabia are aiming to finalize the MoU in the coming months.
