Saudi Arabia Joins Global Discussion on Competition Law at UNCTAD Meeting

KSA, 10 July, 2024 : The General Authority for Competition (GAC) of Saudi Arabia attended the 22nd Group Expert Meeting on Competition Law and Policy, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva from July 3-6, 2024.

The event brought together global experts to discuss critical issues such as food and digital markets and shared experiences in promoting competition. The discussions emphasized the importance of enforcing competition laws to reduce poverty and counter monopolistic practices that restrict access to affordable goods.

The GAC delegation presented Saudi Arabia's leadership of the Arab Competition Network and its development plan, aimed at enhancing collaboration among competition agencies in the Arab world. The Arab Competition Network includes 18 countries from the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA). This presentation followed a meeting hosted by the Eurasian Economic Commission, which gathered regional and international competition organizations.
