Qatar, 23 July, 2024 : A new business council aimed at boosting economic relations between Qatar and Sri Lanka was inaugurated at the Sri Lankan embassy in Doha on Thursday. The Qatar Sri Lanka Business Council is designed to foster closer business connections, promote mutual investments, and expand bilateral trade opportunities.
The launch event was attended by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Mohamed Mafaz Mohideen, council officials, and embassy representatives. Ambassador Mohideen emphasized the council’s practical value in enhancing economic ties and exploring new growth avenues between the two countries.
John Prasad, President of the Qatar Sri Lanka Business Council, outlined the council’s main objectives: promoting bilateral trade, sharing investment opportunities, fostering business collaboration, and supporting SMEs. The council aims to balance trade, encourage Qatari investments in sectors such as tourism and real estate in Sri Lanka, and build a strong business network between the two nations.
The council, affiliated with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha, is led by Sri Lankan professionals based in Qatar. Key office bearers include A. Yoonus (Vice-President), Waruna Gunasekara (Secretary), and Adil Nastar (Treasurer), along with other members. A website has been launched to detail the council’s objectives and trade opportunities in Sri Lanka.
