Qatar, 15 August, 2024 : Qatar has ranked third in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and fifth globally in the National Entrepreneurship Context Index (NECI) according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2023/24 report. The report highlights significant growth in Qatar’s entrepreneurial activity, with a rise in Total Early-Stage Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) to 14.3%, up from 10.7% the previous year.
Additionally, 82.2% of adults in Qatar now view entrepreneurship as a desirable career choice—the highest percentage recorded in the last five years. The GEM report, launched by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), provides insights into Qatar’s entrepreneurial landscape, assisting in policy formulation to support the sector.
Qatar also ranked third regionally for prioritizing social and environmental values in business decisions. The report forecasts growth in employment and international exports within the entrepreneurial sector, reflecting a promising future for Qatar’s business environment. Qatar’s NECI score of 5.9, surpassing the global average of 4.7, underscores its commitment to enhancing entrepreneurship in line with national strategies.
QDB CEO Abdulrahman Hesham al-Sowaidi emphasized that these results motivate further development of initiatives aligned with Qatar's National Development Strategy.
