Qatar Cabinet Commends Shura Council's Approval of Constitutional Amendments

Qatar, 1 November, 2024 : Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani chaired a regular Cabinet meeting at the Amiri Diwan, where the approval of draft constitutional amendments by the Shura Council was warmly welcomed.

Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi announced that the cooperation between the legislative and executive branches exemplifies a shared commitment to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s vision of national unity, justice, and equal citizenship.

The Council noted the issuance of Decree No. (87) of 2024, which calls for a referendum to enhance popular participation in public affairs and foster national unity. Preparations by the Ministry of Interior and the General Referendum Committee are underway to ensure a successful referendum event.

In addition to discussing constitutional matters, the Cabinet approved a resolution to establish a committee for inventorying government warehouses to improve management efficiency. The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Grievances Committee of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority and a memorandum of understanding with Algeria for cooperation in tourism and business events.

Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed a memorandum of understanding with Sweden’s Folke Bernadotte Academy concerning peace, mediation, and conflict resolution. The meeting concluded with the review of reports on government resource planning, the Qatar Financial Markets Authority’s activities for 2023, and Qatar’s participation in the Qatari-Finnish Businessmen Forum.
