Oman, 25 February, 2025 : The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) announced the implementation of 10 future projects in energy, renewable energy, water, and wastewater to support Oman’s net zero targets and Vision 2040. The announcement was made at APSR’s annual media gathering, led by Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.
Dr. Mansour highlighted a 9% rise in renewable energy production in 2024 and a 75% increase in beneficiary satisfaction. Compliance with electricity sector standards reached 95%, while continuous water flow stood at 97%. Oman’s energy transition plan includes major solar and wind projects through 2030, such as the 1,000 MW Manah solar projects launched in early 2025 and future developments like Ibri 3, Duqm, and Dhofar 2 wind farms.
By 2030, Oman plans to add 3,000 MW of solar capacity. APSR reduced electricity connection times to two days and water connections to five days while increasing treated wastewater rates to 98%. The contribution of electricity and water to GDP grew to 2.5% in 2024, with total investments in regulated sectors reaching RO 2.837 billion.
Licensed companies achieved a 98.5% Omanization rate, while APSR endorsed multiple regulatory frameworks to enhance service reliability and consumer rights. Nama Electricity Distribution highlighted key water infrastructure projects, including new desalination plants and transmission lines. Smart meter adoption reached 75% in electricity and 80% in water, while actual reading rates improved to 96% and 97%, respectively.
