UAE Corporate Tax: FTA Begins Refunding Dh10,000 Late Registration Fines

UAE, 09 June, 2025 : UAE businesses that were fined Dh10,000 for missing the corporate tax registration deadline are now receiving refunds, as confirmed by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).

In May, the FTA announced that penalties for late registration would be automatically waived or refunded if businesses file their corporate tax returns within 7 months from the end of their first tax period.

If the penalty has already been paid, it will be credited to the company’s tax account on the EmaraTax portal. If it hasn't been paid yet, the system will automatically cancel the fine.

“For example, companies with a tax period from January 1 to December 31, 2024, must file their returns by July 31, 2025 to benefit from the relief,” said Sumayya Zain, CEO of Hallmark International Auditors.

This refund comes as welcome news, particularly for SMEs, where every saved dirham makes a difference.

The refund applies even to businesses with earlier tax periods, such as July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, as long as they file within the 7-month deadline.

All transactions, including refunds, are managed through the EmaraTax platform.
