Oman Court Jails and Fines Defendant in Tax Evasion Case

Oman, 30 April, 2026: The Criminal Circuit at the Court of First Instance in Seeb has issued an in absentia judgment against a defendant in a tax evasion case involving failure to submit required tax returns.

The court sentenced the defendant to one month imprisonment, imposed a fine of OMR 500, and ordered payment of OMR 137,090 to the Tax Authority of Oman, along with legal expenses.

According to the Tax Authority of Oman, the responsible employee of a commercial establishment deliberately failed to file tax returns for the years 2020 to 2022, in violation of the Income Tax Law, resulting in unpaid taxes totaling OMR 137,090.

After investigation, the matter was referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the competent court, which issued the conviction.

The Tax Authority of Oman has urged taxpayers to submit returns on time and pay taxes due, warning that legal action will continue against violators.
