Oman, 05 March, 2024 : Oman and Japan are poised to expand their trade relations beyond traditional oil and gas sectors to encompass clean energy and a variety of other industries. This shift was emphasized by the port call of the Japanese liquefied hydrogen carrier, 'Suiso Frontier,' in Muscat last August, marking a symbolic step forward in bilateral cooperation.
According to Jota Yamamoto, Ambassador of Japan to Oman, the increasing imports of fisheries and agricultural products from Oman to Japan underscore the evolving nature of their economic relationship. While oil and gas still comprise a significant portion of Japan's imports from Oman, there's a noticeable growth in non-traditional trade sectors.
Both countries share a commitment to strengthening economic ties. Oman imports a range of Japanese products including automobiles, machinery, and appliances, showcasing the diversified nature of their trade relations.
The economic, trade, and technical cooperation between Japan and Oman forms the cornerstone of their longstanding relationship. This cooperation extends to parliamentary exchanges, with both countries actively engaging in dialogue and collaboration.
Oman's active involvement in the 2025 Expo in Osaka, Kansai, highlights its commitment to furthering economic partnerships with Japan. Additionally, Japan's recent decision to provide emergency grant aid to Gaza demonstrates shared humanitarian concerns and collaborative efforts in addressing pressing global issues.
The bilateral economic diversification efforts encompass various areas such as development projects, technology transfer, and human resource development. Japanese investments and financing in Omani projects continue to expand, promising mutual benefits and contributing to the growth and development of both nations.
