Dubai Unveils 2030 Commercial and Logistics Transport Strategy to Boost Economy

UAE, 3 June, 2024 : Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), revealed details of the Dubai Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030. Approved by the Dubai Executive Council, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the strategy aims to double the direct contribution of the land transport and logistics sector to Dubai's economy to AED 16.8 billion.

Aligned with Dubai's vision, the strategy targets enhancing the emirate's global competitiveness and supporting economic growth. It focuses on regulating and governing the commercial transport sector, identifying developmental opportunities, and ensuring sector objectives are met through implementable projects.

Developed in collaboration with strategic partners and private businesses, the strategy aims to enhance cost efficiency, safety, and security in the commercial transport sector. It seeks to achieve this by adopting modern technology, improving fleet efficiency, and reducing accident fatalities.

Driven by the rapid expansion of e-commerce and Dubai's central position as a logistics hub, the commercial transport sector has seen significant economic growth. With 351,000 registered commercial vehicles and 9,699 companies, the sector contributed AED 8.5 billion to Dubai's economy in 2021, accounting for 3% of the emirate's GDP.

The strategy includes 17 projects to support sector growth, increase competitiveness, and enhance digital markets and platforms. Projects focus on data and technology utilization, modernizing vehicle fleets, and fostering innovation. Key projects include developing digital platforms, enhancing driver behavior monitoring, and updating truck fleets.

Additionally, the strategy aligns with existing specialized strategies such as Traffic Safety, Self-Driving Transport Mobility, Zero-Emission Public Transport, Asset, Investment, and Digitization Strategies. It aims to propel Dubai's commercial transport and logistics sector into a leading position on the global stage.
