Qatar Jumps to 5th Globally in UN E-Government Development Index 2024

Qatar, 19 September, 2024 :  Qatar has achieved a significant advancement in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) for 2024, moving from 78th to 53rd place out of 193 countries. The UN report, released biennially, evaluates the effectiveness of government e-services and overall e-government development.

Qatar ranked 5th globally in terms of progress, with a 25-position improvement, and secured 5th place in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index (TII), rising 37 spots. The country also climbed to 58th in the Online Services Index (OSI) and advanced to 90th in the Human Capital Index (HCI).

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has spearheaded efforts to enhance Qatar's e-government standing, implementing a comprehensive action plan with 29 projects across six key areas. This initiative aims to place Qatar among the top ranks by 2030.

The EGDI report reflects Qatar’s commitment to its Digital Agenda 2030, which focuses on developing a seamless digital government, advanced infrastructure, and societal empowerment in the global digital arena.
