Keynote speakers included H.E. Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Jaham Al-Kuwari, President of the GTA, and Mr. Saleh bin Majid Al-Khulaifi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs. Mr. Badar Mohammed Al-Dosari, Head of Medium and Small Taxpayers Section at the GTA, presented on the "Excise Tax for Producers of Sweetened Beverages," covering tax calculations and legal obligations for compliance.
The workshop concluded with an open dialogue, addressing participants' inquiries about the Excise Tax, which was imposed in January 2019 as part of a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) agreement. The GCC expanded the Excise Tax to sweetened beverages in July 2019 to reduce public health risks.
This initiative reflects the GTA's commitment to fostering a transparent tax environment and supporting producers in meeting regulatory requirements.
