UAE Joins Global Initiative for Near-Zero Emission Buildings by 2030

UAE, 28 March, 2024 : The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, recently participated in the inaugural Buildings and Climate Global Forum 2024 in Paris. This forum, convened after COP28, gathered officials from across the globe responsible for decarbonisation and resilience in the construction sector.

Co-organised by France and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with support from the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, the event aimed to endorse a joint ministerial declaration on achieving "Near-zero emission and resilient buildings by 2030."

Eng Nusaiba Al Marzouqi, Director of Studies and Research and Chief Innovation Officer at MoEI, represented the UAE and highlighted the nation's efforts in reducing the carbon footprint in the building sector. The UAE committed to joining international cooperation to decarbonise buildings and enhance their resilience.

The forum also included high-level sessions where Al Marzouqi showcased the UAE's clear methodologies for carbon reduction and mechanisms for updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), setting an example for other countries.

Additionally, the Ministry participated in the annual meeting of the World Green Building Council Committee, focusing on implementing strategies like Buildings Breakthrough and reviewing the Buildings Global Status Report 2023.
