Bahrain, 22 April, 2025 : The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) conducted 358 inspection visits across various governorates in Bahrain during the first quarter of 2025, identifying 46 violations related to VAT and Excise regulations.
The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with tax laws, protect consumer rights, and curb tax evasion. Violations included failure to issue proper VAT invoices, not displaying prices inclusive of VAT, supplying excise goods without valid digital stamps, and not displaying VAT certificates.
The NBR reported several cases suspected of VAT evasion, with legal actions underway. Offenders may face up to five years in prison and fines of up to three times the due VAT amount.
The Bureau reiterated the importance of business and consumer cooperation in maintaining high compliance standards. It urged all registered entities to adhere to tax legislation and encouraged the public to report violations via the 24/7 NBR call center or through the Tawasul system. More details are available on the NBR website.
